I think the answer is that there is no way to change this color separate from changing the overall color palette used in the UI, and then it should change to match that if you check on the Use Color Palette Throughout the UI option on the first preferences page. On some OSes and with some color palettes it may not work as well if that option is not checked; hence my questions about so we could try to improve the particular configuration you're using.
