We show the relative path if there are two like-named files, and may want to keep doing that, but it's a good point that the hostname is usually redundant.  It's useful if you open files from multiple hosts, however, so this probably needs to be an option.

One idea is to right-click on the tabs and select Hide Notebook Tabs.  Then Wing shows a popup instead of the tabs.  To switch files easily use Open From Project in the File menu (or its key binding).  There is also a command switch-document that you could bind to a key with the User Interface > Keyboard > Custom Key Bindings preference.  That lets you type a leading fragment of a name and selects just from the set of open files.  Or use the up/down arrow keys to scroll through the open file names.
