Sorry, but because Wing runs on Python 3.9, it can no longer run on Windows 7. Unfortunately it's just technically impossible for us to continue to support older OSes because we need to upgrade the various libraries we use (not just Python, but also PyQt and other things) to work on newer OS versions and then they stop working on the old ones. We do try to push back against this tendency, but there are limits to what we can do.

hmmm ok. at a minimum seems the WingPro8 installer should refuse to run on Windows 7 and indicate to the user the OS is incompatible. Instead the install completes successfully but attempts to run WingPro8 display a cryptic error message "The program cant start because api-ms-win-core-path-1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

will there be bug fix releases for WingPro7 for Windows 7 platform? Im guessing there are others who still work with Py2 and Py3 releases earlier than 3.9, so WingPro7 remain very useful on this OS.

Thanks.

Yes, we should make the installer refuse to install there. Sorry for the confusion! And yes we'll keep fixing bugs in Wing 7 for a while, to the extent that they are necessary.
