Error on installation

See stack trace from the python shell below. System python is 3.13.5, Debian 12. Happens right on initialization, even after I clear console and restart. I also did an uninstall / reinstall with dpkg and no change. The only optional thing I have done is set up Claude.

Another weirdness is that it installs as /usr/bin/wing11 instead of wingpro11, though the banner at the top when starts says wing pro. It also doesn't show up in the applications window.

The executable has always been wing11 (in /usr/bin/wing11) and not wingpro11 but it should install the application as a whole into /usr/lib/wingpro11, which seems to be the case.

It's trying to use the new faster debugger but apparently isn't installed. Is it possibly an add-on package for Python 3.13 on your system, like a python3.13-dev package or something like that? What Linux dist/version is this?

You can probably work around this by setting the Debugger > Advanced > Use Legacy Core with Python 3.12+ preference in Wing.

This is Debian 12, specifically:

Linux glenn-pc 6.1.0-37-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.140-1 (2025-05-22) x86_64 GNU/Linu

I'm also at a point where I could upgrade to python 3.14, would that help?

I suspect you want to install all three Python 3.13 packages: sudo apt install python3.13 python3.13-venv python3.13-dev

I'm guessing the -dev one has the dbgmonitoring support in it, although I could be wrong. Worth a try before other things. Using Python 3.14 would be fine too, if it solves it.
