Use Wing 100% offline

Is it possible to use/license Wing on the machine that has no connection to the Internet?

Also, is the any kind of "call home" functionality in Wing IDE?

Thanks.

Yes, Wing can be used on a machine that has no connection to the internet. It does need to be activated initially, but that can be done through a web browser on another machine. The license dialog at startup provides instructions for this (the manual activation option).

Wing does check for updates by default; this can be disabled via the Auto-check for Product Updates on the User Interface > Advanced page of the Preferences dialog. Also relevant here are Submit Usage Stats and Show Discount Offers, although all of these things should just fail on a non-connected machine and Wing should keep working normally.

Everything we submit is by https and there are details here: https://wingware.com/doc/legal/privacy

Thank you for the clear response. Breath of fresh air compared to some other vendor who has provided convoluted reply with vague hints to "we may change things without telling you" and "might collect crash dumps", etc...

I'm fairly sure we're not going to change anything, but would clearly note it in the release notes and update the above policy if we do. In any case, our philosophy is to try to do as little as possible consistent with still being able to help people if something goes wrong, and always leaving the option for things to work with zero direct communication because we do have a lot of users working entirely offline for one reason or another.
